CHEF is governed by a volunteer board of twelve veteran home educators from across Alabama.

Board of Directors

CHEF is governed by a self-perpetuating volunteer board of twelve veteran home educators from across Alabama. Board members serve as husband-and-wife teams. Each family unit on the board has been active in local leadership for a number of years and brings to the board a wealth of experience in Christian home education. Here is a brief introduction of our board members:

Paul and Sharon Hubbard

Sharon Hubbard is CHEF's administrative assistant, answering the phone and responding to mail to the CHEF office.  She and her husband, Paul, our Vice President, live in Montgomery.  Paul serves as pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church in Montgomery.  They have three children.  Their two oldest children are homeschool graduates.

Ron and Debbie Landry

Ron and Debbie Landry have graduated three homeschooled students, two of whom are married; the third one is engaged. Ron works full-time in Birmingham at the 117th Air Refueling Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard; Debbie runs Crossroads Christian School in Moody AL.

Jeff and Dawn Mitchell

The Mitchells reside in Dothan, Alabama where Jeff is a math instructor at Wallace Community College. They have four children, two of which are married, and three grandchildren. The Mitchells have been homeschooling since 1998.

Dean and Julie Speers

Dean and Julie Speers of Birmingham are in their 24th year of marriage and 10th year of homeschooling. They are the parents of four children, ages 5-18. Dean is a small business owner and is the Scoutmaster of Troop 514. They are members of Heritage Family Church in Pell City.

Anthony and Debra Swartzendruber

Anthony and Debra are from Atmore, Alabama where Anthony works in drafting and sales at a metal fabrication company and serves as an assistant pastor at Mennonite Christian Fellowship. The Swartzendruber’s have four teenagers and have been home schooling 13 years. Their oldest is a 2011 homeschool graduate. Anthony and Debra serve as administrators for Precept Christian School.

Rusty and Phyllis Tate

Rusty serves as the president of CHEF. The Tates have four children, two of whom are homeschool graduates.  Rusty and Phyllis began homeschooling in 1990. The Tates live in Albertville, where Rusty pastors Albertville First United Methodist Church.

Rick and Lyn West

Rick serves as treasurer of CHEF, and Lyn as recording secretary. Rick and Lyn live in Dothan where they serve as administrators of Ridgecrest Christian School. Rick is also the Minister of Education at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. The West's have five children and one son-in-law. They have graduated their three oldest children.
